Inside The Vogue-Featured Gothic Wedding at Villa Cora, Florence

Justin & Taylor - Villa Cora, Florence

When Justin & Taylor came to me with their vision for a wedding in Florence, I was immediately intrigued. They wanted something moody. Romantic, but unconventional. Think: Gothic. Dramatic. A wedding that felt more like a fashion editorial than a classic Tuscan fairytale.

It was unlike anything I’d ever designed. And I’ll be honest—it pushed me. Creatively. Emotionally. But it also awakened something in me. A reminder that the magic lies in taking risks.

And the result? This wedding was featured in Vogue Italia.

A Vision That Broke the Mold

From the very beginning, Justin & Taylor had an incredibly clear point of view. They weren’t interested in following trends or traditions. They wanted something deeply personal — something that reflected who they are, unapologetically.

The setting was the magnificent Villa Cora, perched just outside Florence’s historic centre. Its opulence — gold leaf detailing, silk damask walls, baroque mirrors — was the perfect backdrop for their darker, moodier palette.

The ceremony took place against rich velvet draping in deep plum, surrounded by wild, sculptural florals in tones of oxblood, blush, crimson, and inky green. Candlelight flickered. Emotions were high. It felt intimate and theatrical all at once—like stepping inside a beautifully haunting dream.

The Invitation Suite: A Work of Art

Let’s talk about the paper goods. I’m still not over them.

The invitation suite featured deep burgundy tones, hand-torn edges, gold foil flourishes, and a wax seal monogram. Inside one envelope? A Caravaggio-inspired image of Medusa. Dramatic, powerful, a little dark…and absolutely on theme.

Layered with velvet ribbon, metallic ink, and styled here with moody pearl accessories, the stunning flat-lay illustrates everything about to come. This wasn’t just a wedding. It was a statement.

The Bride’s Style: A Couture Moment

Taylor’s bridal look(s) were nothing short of sensational.

She wore an off-shoulder corseted gown embroidered with pearls and crystal beading—regal but edgy.

In the evening, she changed into a short reception dress dripping in crystal droplets, styled with deep lipstick, full-glam eyes, and visible tattoos that felt like part of the design itself. Every fashion choice was intentional. Every detail sang. I can’t even.

In a space like Villa Cora, she didn’t fade into the decor — she owned it.

A Design That Dared to Be Different

There was nothing “classic” about this wedding, and that’s exactly what made it so powerful. We embraced shadow and contrast. We layered textures. We added a little irreverence to a setting dripping in tradition.

The tables were set with black chairs, golden chargers, and richly toned floral arrangements that spilled with drama. Candlelight danced off mirrored walls and crystal chandeliers, bringing the whole scene to life like a gothic renaissance painting.

And Then… Vogue Came Calling

Literally out of my comfort zone and into Vogue. Earlier this year, I got wind that Vogue Italia was interested in featuring the wedding. I didn’t say much. I didn’t even let myself hope. But the feature came through and now it’s out in the world. Eeek.

To see one of my most creatively fulfilling weddings recognised in Vogue… it’s a dream come true.

This wedding reminded me why I do what I do. That great design isn’t about following trends…it’s about trusting your instincts, backing your clients’ vision, and being brave enough to create something original.

Justin & Taylor—thank you. For your trust. For your crystal-clear vision. And for letting me run with it, refine it, and bring it to life in a way that felt deeply, beautifully you.

I’m so proud of this one. And I’m so excited to finally share it with you.
